This remarkable image shows a flying eagle rendered in an incuse technique—sunk into the surface of the coin—demonstrating the extraordinary craftsmanship of early Greek engravers.

Kroton, located in modern Calabria in southern Italy, was founded in 710 BCE by Greek colonists and became one of the most important intellectual and cultural centers of Magna Graecia. Around 530 BCE, the legendary philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras established his famous school there. Because Pythagoras’ father was a gem engraver—an artisan skilled in carving dies used for coins—some numismatists have even speculated about a possible connection between this intellectual tradition and Kroton’s distinctive and innovative coinage.

A Length

Start the tape at the collar's top next to the shirt's highest point on the shoulder. Extend the tape to the shirt's bottom.

B Width

Begin at the seam just under one sleeve and extend the tape across to the seam under the other sleeve.

C Sleeve length

Start measuring from the back center of the collar, follow the top seam of the sleeve to the shoulder, secure the tape at the shoulder, and continue down to the end of the sleeve.
